 Upcoming Events…

Hello Everyone,

It's Black History Month and Round Rock and other surrounding areas will be celebrating each Saturday in the month of February.  There will be several events for adults and some for family attendance also.  Please support the local efforts to support and celebrate the rich culture and extensive contributions African Americans make to this county and state.

This year's Round Rock Planning Committee was exceptional and consisted of:  Doris McDonald, President of the Williamson County African American Chamber of Commerce; Jessie Carson, Sweethome Baptist Church; Rev. Bernard Buhl, Pastor of the One Way Baptist Church; Dale Ricklefts, Director of the Round Rock Library; Michelle Cervantes, Round Rock Library; Simone Conner, Clarity Concepts and Designs (designed the 2010 Black History Logo above); City of Round Rock and Round Rock I.S.D.

The theme for this year's celebration involves Economic Success.  One of the things I have noticed is the fact that African Americans in Williamson County are faring well during the current economic downturns.  Yet, there is still room for improvement, advancement and more education to continue to grow businesses and provide opportunities to our youth to better their lives through education, employment and mentorship.  If you own a business or a part of upper management...please consider hiring an intern for the summer months.  WCAACC has a special summer internship program that will be initiated in the summer of 2010.  We are looking for businessowners who are willing to offer a business mentorship/internship for our well qualified applicants.  If interested, please contact Nacole Thompson at (512) 627-9588  OR  Doris McDonald (512) 4266-4911,

Don't forget to share a Black History moment with your children and or other children in your community.  African Americans provide a wealth of accomplishments and successes that reach well beyond the boundaries of our imaginations.  Please pass along our history and  pride to the children of our future.  Also, there are many events scheduled for the month of February, 2010.  Please participate and contribute to our community by supporting these events.

Happy Celebrating,

Doris McDonald, President
